Health Visiting and DVA

Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Health Visiting teams ask about domestic violence as part of the Family Health Needs assessment. This can take place antenatally, following the birth of a baby, when a family arrive in the area or at any time where the professional thinks the question is indicated. Housing for Women (GWA)

Provides safe, secure temporary accommodation, floating support and children's services to women and children escaping domestic violence and abuse. Family support and parenting programmes where domestic violence is an issue as well as other problems including alcohol, substance misuse and mental health.

Independent Domestic Violence Advocacy - Injunctions & Supporting Victims at Court

Independent Domestic Violence Advocates support victims they work with to apply for non-molestation, occupation and prohibitive steps orders. Advocates also accompany victims to court to provide them with support. If special measures are required to aid the giving of evidence the advocate makes the necessary application to the court.

Maternity Services and DVA

Midwives in the Maternity Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Trust make routine inquiries regarding domestic violence (DV) when women access the service. This enables identification of where DV is occuring and an appropriate response or referral-on. It is a particularly important service given women's increased risk of DV during pregnancy. 

Mens Advice Line
