Support Team for Education in Primary and Secondary School (STEPS)

The STEPS Service is an integral part of Royal Greenwich Children’s Services’ commitment to the provision of high quality inclusive education across schools.

Who we are

  • We are a specialist team of dedicated professionals, with a wide range of expertise and experience.
  • We have a Complex Needs Team with outreach workers supporting staff in schools across Royal Greenwich.
  • We also have a team of Specialist Dyslexia Teachers who carry out assessments and deliver 1:1 teaching to those pupils with significant need.
  • We work with schools to increase staff confidence and capacity to include all children with a wide range of additional needs.

What we do

  • School SENCOs refer children to our service if it is felt that they would benefit from support with particular aspects of their learning, such as reading, spelling, handwriting or maths.
  • We offer assessments in schools and provide personalised targets and recommendations that we follow up with outreach support to schools.
  • We support children with the transition from Year 6 to secondary school.

Our dyslexia team carry out assessments and follow these up with a report and a parent feedback meeting, as well as the offer of teaching in some instances. They also support schools with assessments for Access Arrangements.
