Remark! Community
Remark! Community was set up in 2010 to support the Deaf Community around London.
Our charity mission and aims are to:
- Promote British Sign Language (BSL)
- Promote equality for Deaf people
- Relieve social isolation and exclusion
- Assist older deaf people with financial hardship
- Encourage active lifestyles
- Promote mental well being
We provide a number of projects for the Deaf Community in London in order to meet our charity mission. These include lunch clubs for older Deaf people, playschemes and a youth club for Deaf children, a weekly club for Deaf adults as well as sports clubs and many other social events throughout the year including Christmas and Summer parties. You can find out more on our website (https://www.remarkcommunity.org/).
Our Lunch Clubs are a social club for Deaf people aged over 55. Old deaf people often find themselves isolated and secluded from society. Our lunch club brings them together and promotes physical and mental wellbeing. We have two weekly lunch clubs operating in South London, in Beckenham and Eltham. In addition, we offer a free advocacy service to support attendees with their personal administration, such as making phone calls and writing letters.
