Stoptober 2015

Did you know that from 1st October 2015, it will be illegal to smoke in vehicles with someone under 18 present?

The law is changing to protect children from the dangers of secondhand smoke. Every time a child breathes in secondhand smoke, they breathe in thousands of chemicals, which put them at risk of serious conditions including meningitis, cancer, and respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia. Now that there’s one less place to smoke, there’s one more reason to quit. Why not sign up to Stoptober to get all the support you need to kick the habit!

Over three quarters of a million people have already taken part in the nation’s biggest quit attempt since it began and research shows that stopping smoking for 28 days means you’re five times more likely to stop for good. With the new legislation coming into effect on 1st October, there’s never been a better time to quit.

The Royal Borough of Greenwich, in partnership with Charlton Athletic Community Trust, will be touring the borough for Stoptober, giving out goody bags and providing details of local stop smoking drop-in centres where you can get one on one support to quit. Look out for Charlton Athletic Community Trust with the Stoptober gazebo and the Kick the Habit smart car to be on your way to being smokefree!
