Woolwich Library to open on Sundays from 1st March

London's busiest library will now be open between 12pm and 4pm every Sunday.

Woolwich library will now be open on Sundays from 1 March, giving residents the chance to access the wide range of facilities on offer seven days a week.

Important community hub

As the busiest library in London and the second busiest in the UK, Woolwich Library is an important community hub, providing residents with access to books, audiovisual materials, computers, printing and Wi-Fi, as well as study space, online research resources, free computer and English classes, and other services including NHS health checks.

Sunday opening will give Woolwich Library the opportunity to offer library activities and services to those who are not able to access the library during regular hours, as well as providing greater access for regular users.

There will be a Baby Rhyme Time session for parents and babies to enjoy singing and dancing to nursery rhymes and a chance for toddlers to try some arts and crafts in a Messy Morning session. There will also be Knit and Natter and an introduction to reading groups for adults to join.

Residents will be able to integrate their visits with their Sunday shopping, and students will have additional time to enjoy a quiet work space.

Library "pride of the borough"

Councillor Miranda Williams, Royal Borough of Greenwich cabinet member for Culture and Creative industries said: "The Royal Borough invests heavily in its libraries. While library services in other parts of the country have been shrinking, we have been moving in the opposite direction - Woolwich Library is the pride of the borough after becoming the most popular library in London. Making these services available on Sundays will increase accessibility for residents and provide them with more, flexible time to utilise the variety of services and activities on offer."
