When to start thinking about higher education if you have an EHCP

From your Year 9 EHCP annual review onwards, we will start talking with you about what you want to do after you turn 16.

When you start Year 11, we will send you a form. This form will include questions about:

  • your post-16 or college preferences
  • what course you would like to study

You can make multiple choices at this stage, including if you wish to stay at your current school or college. If you do not want to choose, we will speak to your nearest college.

You will need to send the completed form to the SEND Assessment and Review Service so we can record your preferences.

During your Year 11 annual review, we will check if your preferences are still the same. The annual review usually happens during the autumn term.

Our SEND Careers team will then arrange a Moving to Adulthood meeting to talk about your options and provide information, advice and guidance.
