Mainstream schools should be able to meet the needs of most autistic children.

Read our guidance about visiting schools:

When your child has been diagnosed, you will receive information about Autism Outreach services. You will need to submit a consent form before we can work with your child.

If you have not heard about our services, fill in the consent form and we will be in touch. Your child must have an autism diagnosis.

How we work with your child

We will work with your child’s school and gather information about how your child is doing at school.

We will assign a member of the team to visit your child to complete an initial report. This will include our observations and recommendations.

In some instances, we will carry out some practical work with your child or school staff. This could include strategies or interventions to help your child learn.

If your child does not need our support at that time, we will continue to monitor them and can respond if their needs change.

Our support is based in schools but we also run support and training for parents of an autistic child

We also offer transition support for autistic children moving from primary to secondary school. Find out what transition support is available for autistic children

Who delivers the support

Our team is made up of:

  • specialist advisory teachers
  • a speech and language therapist
  • an occupational therapist
  • autism outreach workers
