Get resources for reading

Our Support Team for Education in Primary and Secondary School (STEPS) have put together a list of useful resources you can use at home with your child.

Supporting diversity and inclusion through reading

Royal Greenwich is a diverse borough with people from a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds who speak over 90 languages.

All young readers should be able to read books where they can see themselves, their experiences and wider worlds reflected.

Support if your child is anxious about going to school

Our educational psychologists have put together some resources to help if you think your child is experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA).

Your child might be experiencing EBSA if they:

  • have significant difficulties in attending school
  • experience emotional distress when faced with attending school
  • stay home with the knowledge of parents/carers and school staff
  • experience an absence of antisocial behaviours

Visit Fablefy – The Whole Child on YouTube for videos on mindfulness and breathing activities to support young people.

Dr Tina Rae has created resources on supporting young people with anxiety:

There are online communities that also provide support with EBSA:

Join the Chill Hub

We are giving additional support for young people in secondary schools who are experiencing EBSA from September 2024 to July 2025.

The Chill Hub is aimed at young people aged 11 to 16 years old who are struggling to attend school due to anxiety. This is for young people who have been unable to attend school for 4 or more weeks.

Only a professional from the school or working with the family can make a referral.

We hold weekly sessions during term times on Tuesdays from 1pm to 3pm.
