Community Angels befriending service for older people
A volunteer-led befriending service for older people that can help people who are feeling isolated in person or over the phone.
This may be due to an illness, disability, retirement, mental health conditions, social disadvantages, limited mobility and those who may have lost a partner or friends.
The Community Angels provide companionship and befriending, and help people develop skills which will ultimately improve their health as they gradually overcome their isolation.
Volunteers visit each client at least once in a week and give them companionship for about an hour. They also provide telephone befriending support.
They welcome referrals from hospitals, adult and older people services, charities, families and friends but these are not essential. Anyone who needs help is welcome to refer themselves.
