Greenwich Handyperson Service

The Greenwich Handyperson Service does small DIY or repair jobs for people who have disabilities, or who are aged 60 or over.

These small jobs include:
  • checking and installing smoke detectors
  • hanging or taking down curtains, curtain rails or blinds
  • changing fluorescent light tubes
  • putting up shelves
  • replacing toilet seats
  • setting central heating programmers
  • bleeding radiators
  • minor plumbing jobs
  • minor electrical jobs
  • minor carpentry jobs
  • cleaning out gutters

They cannot help with gardening, painting or decorating services or flat-pack furniture but may be able to put you in touch with other agencies who can help.

Some of these jobs are free while others are charged for. Examples of free jobs include:
  • changing simple light bulbs
  • installing grab rails
  • removing trip hazards

Examples of jobs that are charged for include:
  • clearing gutters
  • supplying and fitting a door security chain
  • programming central heating

Other jobs are free if you get an income-related benefit, such as Housing Benefit or Guaranteed Pension Credit, or are reasonably charged for older or disabled residents.

When you contact them to ask them to do a job, they will tell you the cost and how you can pay.

They will also give you an appointment for someone to come and do the job. They aim to send someone within two weeks of your call.
