Occupational therapy during school and education

Occupational therapists (OTs) will help you develop skills to support a young person with a physical, sensory or cognitive disability. They support the young person to be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives.

They'll work with the:
  • child and young people themselves
  • their parents
  • families
  • school staff

The child's role is to play and learn. The OT will evaluate their playing, school performance, and daily activities and compare them with the average development for that age group.

They can also provide professional assessment and advice to schools or education providers to support children and young people to take part in learn, and enjoy their educational experience.
