Volunteer to support people with SEND

Learn new skills, build confidence, and contribute to meaningful community projects.

BME Volunteers CIC offers a range of volunteering opportunities that provide essential support to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families.

By participating in the volunteering program, you can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families and also gain valuable experience and skills.

Volunteers help create a nurturing and inclusive environment that supports the growth and wellbeing of children with SEND, fostering connections that benefit the entire community.

How volunteers can contribute
  1. One-on-one support - support during activities and events, helping children engage and enjoy their experiences. This could include facilitating communication, offering encouragement, and meeting their needs.

2. Peer mentoring - guide in areas such as social skills, self-advocacy, and personal development. This mentorship fosters confidence and independence, empowering young people to navigate their educational and social environments.

3. Facilitating activities - lead and help in a range of recreational and educational activities such as arts and crafts, sports, and educational workshops. All tailored to engage children in a fun and inclusive manner.

4. Parent support - support parents by offering a listening ear, sharing experiences, and connecting them with resources. Facilitate parent support groups where families can share challenges and successes, fostering a sense of community.

5. Community engagement - participate in community outreach initiatives, helping to raise awareness of SEND issues and advocating for the needs of children and families. By building relationships within the community, volunteers contribute to creating a more inclusive environment.

6. Training and workshops - help deliver training sessions and workshops for parents and other volunteers, share skills and knowledge related to SEND support. This helps build a stronger community of advocates and informed supporters.

7. Feedback and progress reporting - provide feedback on children’s progress during activities, helping to identify strengths and areas for improvement. This is shared with parents and staff to ensure a holistic approach to each child's development.
