Overview

You can apply for a supported internship if you: 

  • live in Royal Greenwich 
  • are between ages 16 and 24 
  • can travel independently or are willing to be travel trained 
  • have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) 
  • want to move into employment and need extra support to do so 
  • can commit to working more than 16 hours per week to complete the programme 

What to expect from a supported internship

The internship will: 

  • usually be based at the employer’s premises 
  • give you real-world experience for one year 
  • include mentorship from experienced job coaches 
  • be within a supportive learning environment 
  • give you the opportunity to work with different local employers 
  • be unpaid 

It is possible that you could gain employment within the host business or an external employer at the end of your internship. 

An expert job coach will support you and your employer. You will need to: 

  • make sure the internship helps your long-term career goals  
  • make sure the role fits your working capabilities 
  • complete a personalised study programme with a chance to study relevant qualifications 

You will be able to get support with: 

  • developing employable skills 
  • boosting your confidence in working 
  • professional conduct training 
  • writing your CV 
  • preparing for interviews 
  • applying for suitable vacancies 

A typical day in rotation would begin with lessons with your tutor at the host business every morning from 9am to 10am. You will be in rotation from 10.30am to 3.30pm and end the day with daily reflection with your tutor and peers.
