Berkeley Homes supported internship programme

Welcome to the Berkeley Homes Supported Internship Programme for the 2024 and 2025 academic year. 

Now entering its third successful year, this programme has been a collaborative effort aimed at empowering young adults with the skills, experience and qualifications needed to secure sustainable employment.  

Over the past years, we have witnessed numerous success stories and are excited to continue providing impactful opportunities for our interns. 

Programme overview

The Berkeley Homes Supported Internship Programme offers a dynamic and enriching experience that will give interns a variety of workplace skills. 

The programme includes multiple rotations across different sectors, giving a comprehensive learning experience. Interns will participate in: 

  • concierge work 
  • retail skills development 
  • barista training 
  • finance and administration 
  • library and information services 
  • logistics operations 

Key benefits

  • Employability Level 1 qualification: Interns will work towards an employability qualification, enhancing their CVs and boosting their job prospects.

Rotations and activities

Concierge work 

Interns will learn the essentials of concierge services, including customer service, managing bookings and providing information to residents and visitors. This role develops communication skills and problem-solving abilities. 

Retail skills development 

This rotation offers hands-on experience in a retail environment. Interns will learn about inventory management, customer interactions, sales techniques and visual merchandising.  

Barista training 

Interns will be trained in the art of coffee making, including operating professional coffee machines, customer service in a café setting and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. 

Finance and administration 

This rotation covers basic financial principles, including bookkeeping, invoicing and budget management. Interns will also gain experience in administrative tasks such as data entry, filing and office management. 

Library and information services 

Interns will assist in managing library resources, cataloguing books and supporting library users. This role improves organizational skills and attention to detail. 

Logistics operations 

This rotation involves working in logistics where interns will learn about inventory control, supply chain management and efficient distribution of goods. 

Support and opportunities 

Throughout the programme, interns will be able to get a range of support services to ensure their success: 

  • career coaching – professional coaches will help interns set career goals, prepare for job interviews, and refine their resumes 
  • workshops and seminars – regular sessions on various topics such as teamwork, leadership, and effective communication 
  • networking opportunities – interns will have the chance to meet professionals from various industries, opening doors to future employment opportunities 
  • health and wellbeing support – access to counselling and mental health services to ensure interns' overall wellbeing
