Short breaks

Hours

We offer eligible families up to 100 hours of short break activities per year. We calculate hours over a financial year, which is 1 April to 31 March.

Families cannot carry over unused hours into a new year.

The number of eligible hours per year depends on the child's age:

• ages 5 to 17 can access up to 100 hours per year
• ages 18 to 25 can access up to 8 sessions per year alongside their regular support package

There are times throughout the year when demand for short breaks is higher than usual. This means providers cannot guarantee availability. But they’ll work with you to support your needs wherever possible.

Costs

We pay organisations to provide short breaks for Royal Greenwich families. This means short breaks are available to eligible families at a lower cost.

Short break providers charge an access fees for activities. These cost between £10 and £20 per session excluding transport costs.

Families can buy more sessions direct from some providers. This depends on how the provider is set up.
