Our Educational Psychologists (EPs) can help schools and families understand the needs of children and young people. 

This may be support with: 

  • learning 
  • communication 
  • social and emotional wellbeing 
  • physical needs 
  • sensory needs 
  • any other circumstance that may impact on the child or young person

How we support your child in school

We work to understand what support a child or young person needs at home and in school. 

A Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) will refer your child to us if they have concerns around their learning or emotional wellbeing.  

An EP can give a more detailed understanding of the child’s life including their needs, views and strengths. This looks different for each child or young person. It may involve working directly with them or the adults around them. 

We work closely with parents and carers, teachers and school staff, and any other professionals. This involves: 

  • understanding what’s happening – by the time we carry out an assessment, we know you may have already tried many strategies and interventions. An EP can use psychology to explore what has been tried and figure out what else may help 
  • working together – we work together with teachers, parents and carers to come to a shared understanding of what’s going on and what changes we’d like to see in the future 

EPs are also involved as part of an Education, Health and Care needs assessment.
