Additional support for children in a private, voluntary or independent (PVI) setting
Our Early Years Inclusion Service (EYIS) support children in an early years setting that is private, voluntary or independent (PVI).
Your early years setting will refer your child to us for additional support if they:
- live in Royal Greenwich
- are currently receiving funded early learning
- have complex or emerging disabilities
- attend an early years PVI setting, including childminders
This support is carried out by our Early Years Area Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCos).

What happens after a referral
We will consult with your child’s setting to gather information. This may include:
- a discussion with you
- a discussion with staff
- an observation of your child to identify their needs
- reviewing your child’s Early Years Foundation Stage tracking/ setting information
- direct work with your child
Once we feel like we have enough information, we will decide the level of ongoing work we think your child needs and share it with you. This can be one of three options:
- we think your child is receiving enough universal support through your early years setting and no further help from EYIS is needed.
- we think your child has emerging needs that could use targeted support. Your early years setting can ask for a review on request from the Area SENCo if they need additional support. Your early years setting can also access a range of online support for early years providers.
- we think your child has complex needs and will allocate an Area SENCo. They will support the early years setting to change the curriculum and environment to make sure your child makes the best possible progress. This includes using the assess, plan, do and review cycle and building a profile for your child.
If your child does not need support from multiple services, your early years provider can ask for targeted support from the Early Years Inclusion Service.
Your early years provider will need to complete the EYIT appendix. Post the completed form and any supporting documents to:
