Educational Psychology - Family Hub

Family Hubs are a ‘one-stop-shop’ for children and young people aged 0-19 (0-25 with additional needs) and their families and are a new way of bringing together all the support you may need as a family from pregnancy through to young people turning 19 (or 25 if they have a disability).

Greenwich Educational Psychology service is pleased to be working with the family hubs to support families with support and advice.  We will be running a series of workshops to support in specific areas.  Please see below for details of the workshops, dates and how to register.  

 

Emotion Coaching

What is Emotion Coaching?

Emotion Coaching is a model of communication that enables parents to understand and talk to their children, from an early age, about their emotions in a way that promotes a child’s emotional literacy, emotional regulation and overall wellbeing. Sessions will be run by Educational Psychologists and are intended to empower parents to understand how to manage when toddlers experience ‘big’ emotions and how to safely set limits in an attachment informed way.

Dates and times of sessions

Sessions will take place Friday afternoons from 1.30-3pm, on the following dates:

  • 2 & 9 February 2024
  • 15 & 22 March 2024
  • 10 & 17 May 2024
  • 28 June & 5 July 2024
  • 4 & 11 October 2024
  • 18 & 25 October 2024 

Attendees should attend both sessions.


Target groups

Places are prioritised for the following target groups:

  • Black and Global Majority Families
  • Families with Children with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) and/or parents that have SEND
  • Fathers and co-parents
  • Young mothers

Connecting and Communicating with your Baby Workshop

What is covered in the Connecting and Communicating with your Baby workshops?
These sessions are run by Educational Psychologists for expectant parents wanting to learn how to communicate successfully and build an emotional bond with their children. The focus of these groups will be on the emotional impact of having a child and how parents and their babies can start to build a relationship of trust, respect and fun together.

Sessions will include explicit teaching of attachment theory and will draw on theory and application Video Interactive Guidance (VIG) which is proven to support rewarding relationships between children and parents, boost a child’s brain development and emotional well-being, and is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Dates and times of sessions
Sessions will take place Friday afternoons from 1.30-3pm, on the following dates:
  • 19th & 26th April & 3rd May
  • 7th, 14th & 21st June
  • 13th, 20th & 27th September
  • 8th, 15th & 22nd November
  • 29th November, 6th & 13th December

Attendees should attend all 3 sessions.
