VI Provision in Greenwich

The Royal Borough of Greenwich has a range of specialist provision for children and young people with vision impairment, including

 

The Sensory Service

 

The Sensory Service supports mainstream schools, special schools, and families to ensure that children with vision impairment achieve their potential and have access to the specialist interventions that might otherwise be on offer within a specialist setting.

 

The service is broadly divided into an offer to schools which includes:

  • creating Personal Learning Plans to match individual children’s learning needs
  • support from a specialist Qualified Teacher of the Vision Impaired, Specialist Outreach Worker for VI, and/or a Habilitation Specialist for VI
  • provision of specialist technology and practical resources such as computer tablets, magnifiers and Braille resources.
  • training for staff at a whole school level and/or for individual staff

  • regular home visits in the preschool years
  • structured support for transitions.
  • provision of specialist resources to support at home
  • parent meetings to learn more about vision impairment and to meet other families
  • Habilitation training and support where required
