CACT Travel Buddy Scheme

Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) is proud to be working with Cycle Confident and Greenwich Cyclists on Travel Buddies, an active travel opportunity for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to get to school safely.

Young people at secondary school may apply, including those who until now have relied on home-to-school transport. Individuals will be matched to a Travel Buddy who will provide 1:1 support walking or cycling to school.

The scheme is open to young people (based on a pre-programme assessment) who are resident and attend school in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Children will be matched with a Travel Buddy volunteer. These are skilled and enthusiastic walk and cycle ride leaders who are trained in positive handling (for anxiety-related behaviour), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and SEND awareness and more.

If you would like to register for the scheme click here to complete the expression of interest form and we will be in contact to progress your application.

You can also volunteer as a Travel Buddy. If you're an enthusiastic leader, enjoy walking or cycling and you're interested in helping young people with specific needs including ASD and SEND - Travel Buddies could be the scheme for you. To be a part of this rewarding project, call the Live Well Community Hub on 0800 470 4831.
