Mainstream schools and the ASD Outreach Service
The ASD Outreach Service
The ASD Outreach Service supports both mainstream schools and families to ensure that children with autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs) in mainstream educational provision achieve their potential and have access to the specialist interventions that might be on offer within a specialist setting.
The service is broadly divided into an offer to schools which includes:
- creating Personal Learning Plans to match individual children’s learning needs
- support from a specialist outreach worker
- specialist advice from a specialist teacher, Occupational Therapist, or Speech and Language Therapist
- provision of specialist practical resources such as visual timetables and work stations.

And an offer to families which includes:
- training packages for parents including online training courses
- a structured support programme for transitions.
- provision of specialist resources to support at home
- regular parent courses including Early Bird (0-8) and Cygnet (8+)

Admissions to special schools are made through the Royal Borough of Greenwich SEND assessment and review department.

These are unit provisions within a mainstream school setting.
Admissions to DSP’s are made through the Royal Borough of Greenwich SEND assessment and review department.

The criteria are as follows:
- Have diagnosis of ASD/MLD
- Normally have an EHCP with ASD as primary need
- They should have potential to access and engage in some mainstream learning with appropriate support
